Transportation

Find out more about how Coral Gables manages traffic and different forms of transportation around the city including our green initiatives.

Transportation

Transportation is a critical part of sustainability, as the transportation sector is responsible for a quarter of all greenhouse gas emissions in the U.S. and makes up 46% of greenhouse gas emissions in Coral Gables. The city has a number of sustainable transportation projects in our Capital Improvement Plan which are being designed to encourage sustainable transportation modes, increase Coral Gables’ tree canopy and reduce air pollution. The City is also making strides in completing our pedestrian network through our high-visibility crosswalk program and incrementally filling in gaps in our sidewalk network. Smaller, recently completed projects like lowering our speed limit to 25mph on local residential streets and installing bike racks for local businesses are accruing livability benefits for our residents.

Coral Gables is in the process of drafting several long range planning documents which will create a road map for future transportation and sustainability projects for the next 10 years. The Coral Gables Multi-Modal Plan and the Bike/Pedestrian Implementation Plan will be completed in 2019 and will recommend a number of capital improvement projects which will make Coral Gables the most livable, environmentally friendly and multi-modal city in Florida.
